About the Event

Our presenters will provide an overview of the Design-Build process, explaining its structure and key operational elements. Following this, legal experts will present best practices for drafting and managing contracts within the Design Build framework, including agreements between the owner and the design-builder, between the designer and the builder (contractor), and contracts involving subcontractors or sub-designers. This session will offer valuable insights for ensuring clarity, efficiency, and risk management in Design-Build projects.

Michael is a Partner in the Project Development and Finance Group in White & Case’s Houston office. His practice focuses on the representation of owners and developers in their construction projects, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, power plants, battery energy storage facilities, carbon capture facilities, petrochemical facilities, and pipelines. Michael has experience with drafting engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), construction, construction management, engineering, operating & maintenance, long-term service agreements, and procurement agreements for large energy projects throughout the world.  Michael spent the first ten years of his practice as a construction litigator, with the last ten years primarily focused on transactional matters.



Sean McChristian

Partner

Porter Hedges LLP

Sean McChristian is a Partner at Porter Hedges LLP and is a member of the firm’s Construction Law Group. His practice focuses on representing contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, sureties, design professionals, construction managers, lenders, and owners in all types of construction disputes and contract negotiations. Sean is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas ‐ Construction Law Section, and the Houston Bar Association ‐ Construction Law Section. He is board certified in construction law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, previously served as the Legislative Affairs Advisor for the State Bar of Texas ‐ Construction Law Section, and currently serves on the governing council of the Construction Law Foundation of Texas and the Construction Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.
