DBIA Southwest Scholarships

At the DBIA Southwest Region, we believe the future of design-build starts with the people shaping it today.

Our annual scholarship and grant program supports students, faculty, and student chapters across the Southwest Region—helping expand knowledge, strengthen programs, and create meaningful industry connections.

Through the generous support of our members and Premier Partners, we are proud to offer three opportunities in 2026 designed to advance education and engagement in design-build delivery.

Applications open March 31, 2026 and close June 30, 2026.

Winners will be announced in August 2026.

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $5,000 (1 recipient)

 

This scholarship supports students who are preparing to enter the design-build industry and are already demonstrating strong academic performance and interest in collaborative project delivery.

 

Who Should Apply

  • Junior or Senior undergraduate students

  • Majoring in Architecture, Civil/Construction Engineering, or Construction Management

  • Enrolled in an accredited university within the Southwest Region (TX, OK, LA, AR, NM)

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

 

Application Requirements

  • Essay (max 500 words) demonstrating knowledge of design-build

  • Letter of recommendation from faculty

  • Most recent transcript

 

Key Details

  • Funds distributed to the university for Fall 2026

FACULTY GRANT

Award: $2,000 (1 recipient)

The Faculty Grant is designed to empower educators to bring design-build concepts into the classroom and expand student exposure to collaborative delivery methods.

 

Who Should Apply

  • Faculty members in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction programs based at accredited institutions in the Southwest Region

 

Application Requirements

  • Essay (max 500 words) outlining how design-build will be incorporated into curriculum

  • Resume or CV

 

Eligible Uses of Funds

  • DBIA Certification Workshops

  • Educator Workshops

  • Continuing education

  • Design-Build curriculum development

Key Details

  • Funds must be used by December 31, 2026

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION SCHOLARSHIP

Requirements for Eligibility:

  • Young Professional (35 years or younger) seeking design-build certification in the Southwest Region (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, or New Mexico).

  • Application form and letter of recommendation must be submitted.

 

Important Dates and Information:

  • One (1) $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

  • The application period begins on March 31, 2025, and ends on June 30, 2025.

  • The scholarship winner will be announced in August 2025.

  • The winner will receive $500 upfront to help cover the cost of DBIA certification, with the remaining $500 disbursed upon proof of DBIA certification.

STUDENT CHAPTER PROGRAM GRANT

Award: $200–$1,000 (multiple recipients)

This grant supports active DBIA Student Chapters in creating impactful programs that introduce students to design-build and connect them with industry professionals.

 

What This Supports

  • Industry speaker events

  • Design-build education programs

  • Student competitions

  • Site visits and project tours

  • Collaboration with local DBIA chapters

  • Other innovative student-led initiatives

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Active DBIA Student Chapter in good standing

  • Completed application with budget

  • Faculty advisor approval

  • Funds used for 2026 design-build educational activities

 

Key Details

  • Applications reviewed by the DBIA-SW NextGen Committee

  • Funds distributed as reimbursement after activities are completed

  • Recipients must submit receipts, event summary, photos, and attendance
