Thinking Outside the Box - Advanced Design Collaboration Case Studies

MAY 08

BREAKOUT SESSION #2

3:30 PM

Breakout Rooms

1.0 DBIA CEH

The term "collaboration" is used often in discussing design build project teaming, but how is it actually achieved? This presentation will look at several practical examples of unusual design team collaborations strategies that have pushed teams well outside of traditional roles and actually rebuilt the design and construction delivery process to benefit the overall project delivery product and process. These outside of the box strategies are presented both an example of successful re-imagining of the traditional team structure, and also as a point of departure to inspire further innovation and exploration.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will identify the common practices on a project that can become red flags for future project ethical violations, accidents and safety hazards as the project progresses.

  2. Attendees will investigate several project case studies and identify where project teams failed to follow proper design build protocols, resulting in violations of standard of care, and even risk to the safety and welfare of the public.

  3. Attendees will apply this understanding to develop proactive measures that they can implement on future projects to prevent similar negative outcomes impacting safety and the public welfare.

  4. After attending, attendees will be able to illustrate and summarize the DBIA Best Practices for Design Build Done Right, and demonstrate how this will prevent ethical violations, and erosion of the standard of care for architects, engineers, and construction personnel, as well as ensure a safe building for the public use.
