BREAKOUT SESSION #1
2:00 PM
Breakout Rooms
1.0 DBIA CEH
Progressive Design-Build offers unmatched potential for deeper collaboration, early alignment, and smarter project delivery, but how can teams ensure that design excellence isn’t lost in the process? This session explores how to deliver value without compromising design, even in the face of tight budgets, schedule pressures, and evolving stakeholder needs.
A multidisciplinary panel representing architecture, construction, ownership, and preconstruction will share insights from a range of completed Progressive Design-Build projects, including civic, commercial, and institutional developments such as Old Parkland, Hall Park in Frisco, and St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Drawing from real project experience, panelists will examine how Target Value Delivery (TVD), design-assist, early estimating, and colocation strategies help maintain alignment between design intent and cost from concept through construction.
Attendees will gain practical knowledge on how to structure teams, integrate cost intelligence early, and build the trust and transparency required to protect quality and mitigate risk. The session will also highlight how intentional collaboration across disciplines, especially during preconstruction, can shape more resilient, adaptable, and high-performing project outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Define key principles of Progressive Design-Build and explain how early collaboration supports alignment of project goals, cost, and design intent.
Apply Target Value Delivery (TVD) and early estimating strategies to maintain cost certainty while supporting innovation and design quality.
Evaluate the impact of integrated team structures including design, construction, ownership, and preconstruction, on risk mitigation, transparency, and design continuity.
Identify practical tools and team behaviors that lead to reduced rework, clearer decision-making, and more resilient outcomes in complex Progressive Design-Build projects.
