Participate in Survey: Your Voice Can Shape the Future of the Owner Advisor Role

Design-build is growing — and so is the complexity Owners face as they navigate it. As Progressive Design-Build (PDB) gains momentum, Owners are taking on increasingly critical responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle. Yet one of the most important roles supporting their success — the Owner Advisor (OA) — remains inconsistently defined across the industry.
That inconsistency creates real challenges. When the OA role lacks clear expectations and defined competencies, Owners are left to make high-stakes decisions without consistent guidance, which can lead to misalignment, coordination gaps and underperformance.
DBIA is working to change that.
To bring clarity and data to this conversation, DBIA has engaged FMI Corporation to conduct a comprehensive, industry-wide assessment of the OA role. The research will explore what skills and competencies make an effective Owner Advisor, how well those needs are currently being met and what role a potential Design-Build Done Right Owner Advisor® specialty credential could play in helping Owners identify qualified support.
Now, DBIA needs your input.
As design-build continues to grow and as PDB gains momentum, Owners are taking on increasingly complex responsibilities. At the same time, the OA role remains inconsistently defined across the industry, creating challenges for Owners seeking qualified support. Your participation in this survey will help shape future guidance, support Owners in selecting qualified advisors and advance Design-Build Done Right®.
