Serving DBIA, Jim Whitaker is the current Chancellor of DBIA’s College of Fellows. Jim is the only practicing architect that has been elevated to Fellow of both the AIA and DBIA. He served on DBIA’s national board of directors from 2010 – 2016, including as its chairman in 2014. Jim was served many of DBIA’s committees, including the Development Board, the Futures Council, the P3 Committee, and chaired the Federal Markets Committee. He is currently participating in the re-write of Design-Build Done Right™ best practices publications.
Jim has served national leadership roles at both AIA and DBIA, including AIA’s Project Delivery Knowledge Community (“PDKC”). He currently serves on the national board of directors for the Construction Industry Round Table (“CIRT”), an industry advocacy group of c-suite leaders of the nation’s largest construction and design firms.
Jim Whitaker is a licensed architect, a thankful and recovering contractor, and a passionate advocate, educator, and influencer of high-performance teams in the architect, engineer, contractor (AEC) space. He is a published author and sought-after speaker in the design and construction industry, nationwide.
Of personal note, Jim is a father of five, is a native of North Carolina, a product of the University of Tennessee; and, he is a former U.S. Army officer. A fun fact: Jim is a survivor of Flight 1549, the 2009 US Airways airplane crash into the Hudson River.
