The presentation will cover the use of design quality audits as an owner's quality oversight tool. The theory behind design QA/QC in the DB context will be covered, and the design quality audit process will be demonstrated as used on the $400 million RiverRenew DB tunnel improvement project in Alexandria, VA. Design quality audit results are displayed on a dashboard produced by conflating 20+ data sources to furnish cost, schedule, and technical progress of this 2 mile project.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Implement Design Quality Audits: Participants will be able to organize and apply design quality audits to meet owner quality oversight requirements for large-scale construction projects.


  2. Identify and Address Conflicts of Interest: Participants will be able to identify potential conflicts of interest within a design-builder's design QA/QC system and discuss strategies to mitigate these issues.


  3. Execute Design Quality Audit Processes: Participants will be able to demonstrate the implementation of the design quality audit process through the example of the RiverRenew DB tunnel project, including the integration of multiple data sources into a comprehensive dashboard.


  4. Utilize Audits for Dispute Avoidance: Participants will be able to analyze and apply design quality audits as a tool for avoiding disputes by ensuring transparency and accountability in project design quality.
