AGC-TEXO Award Goes to Speed Fab-Crete, Fort Worth, Texas

Speed Fab-Crete Garners Design-Build Award For School Field House Project

"Smartest Design Since the Pyramids" —Dr. Jeri Pfeifer, Superintendent Everman ISD

FORT WORTH, Texas
Speed Fab-Crete General Contractor has been named winner of the 2010 "Design-Build" category in Texas building competition sponsored by TEXO, the DFW chapter of Associated General Contractors.

The award went to Speed Fab-Crete as design-builder of a $5,500,000 field house for Everman Independent School District last year. The district's school trustees were guests of the company at a recent awards banquet at Cowboys Stadium.

The 24,100-square-foot field house contains athletic facilities for the district's various level of football teams.

Callahan & Freeman Architects designed the angular shaped facility. A severely restricted site, in an end zone of the district's football stadium, required the unusual shape to maximize available space. Multiple windows of coaches' offices and the players' weight room face onto a curved track bordering the field.

The exterior of the field house is made of Speed Fab-Crete's precast concrete walls with limestone aggregate, and a partial veneer of two different colored bricks and a standing seam roof. The treatment ensured campus continuity with existing school buildings.

Everman's school superintendent, Dr. Jeri Pfeifer, said, "Given its purpose, our field house was the smartest design since the Pyramids. Given its size, this was the best bang-for-the-buck building I've ever seen."

The building is named in honor of Dale Keeling, Everman ISD's Director of Athletics and champion head football coach, positions he has held for 11 years.
