Special Two-Day Intensive Workshop: Managing Design In An Integrated Process: The Art And The Science

As you know, managing design in an integrated process, whether Design-Build, CMAR, or IPD, is one of the most challenging aspects of any collaborative project delivery model. The California Center for Construction Education (CCCE) has developed a targeted training program to help contractors and architects better prepare to manage design in any of these collaborative delivery processes. Managing Design in an Integrated Process will be presented at two locations in California over the next two months. Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Issues New Mission and Values Statement

Members reaffirm commitment to Design-Build process while expanding mission to include research and evaluation of other integrated delivery methods.

Washington, DC, December 1, 2009 – At their 2009 annual conference in Washington, DC, DBIA's Board of Directors voted unanimously in support of a new vision, mission and values statement that expands the organization's original and exclusive focus on design-build project delivery to include objective evaluation and education in other integrated delivery methods. DBIA, however, maintains its position that design-build is the original and optimal form of integrated delivery. The complete text of the approved document is available at www.dbia.org.

Ninety Percent of BRAC Projects Design-Build

San Antonio BRAC Awards $101 Million in Construction Awards. Three construction contracts worth more than $101 million were recently awarded for San Antonio Base Realignment and Closure projects at Fort Sam Houston, formerly known as Kelly Air Force Base. "Ninety percent of the BRAC projects are design-build to help move the projects out the door faster," said Randy Holman, program manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Joint Management in San Antonio. Federal Economic Stimulus Bill to Impact Texas Construction Industry

$17-Billion Package Changes Texas Governor's Mind. After strongly criticizing President Obama's $787-billion economic stimulus package, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has agreed to accept all $17 billion of the state's earmarked federal money.

David Bloxom, president of design-build contractor Speed Fab-Crete, Fort Worth, and president of DBIA - Southwest Region, says he doesn't think the stimulus package will ultimately create additional jobs, "but it might help stop the bleeding." He says states with shovel-ready projects already on the books - such as Texas - will benefit most. Read more.
